Golf
Golf is a sport in which the objective is to hit a ball with a club and get it into the hole in as few strokes as possible. Its origins date back to the Netherlands (as “colf”) and it developed in Scotland in the 15th century; the first official rules were established in St. Andrews in 1754. The game is based on a simple principle: play the ball as it lies and the course as you find it. Players start from the tee and finish in the hole on the green, crossing fairways and obstacles such as bunkers, water, and rough, which may result in penalties. A standard round consists of 18 holes. Each hole has a “par” (the ideal number of strokes): scores below par indicate better performance (birdie, eagle). Golf is an Olympic sport, reintroduced at Rio 2016, and represents a discipline of precision, strategy, and concentration. At EYOF 2027, golf will be among the featured sports, with young European athletes competing at the Golf Club of Lignano, one of the most scenic courses in Northern Italy, featuring 18 perfectly maintained holes set within a beautiful pine forest.
